Song of Solomon 1 (New International Version)

1 Solomon’s Song of Songs.

Beloved [a]

2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
for your love is more delightful than wine.

3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;
your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the maidens love you!

4 Take me away with you—let us hurry!
Let the king bring me into his chambers.

Friends

We rejoice and delight in you [b] ;
we will praise your love more than wine.

Beloved

How right they are to adore you!

5 Dark am I, yet lovely,
O daughters of Jerusalem,
dark like the tents of Kedar,
like the tent curtains of Solomon. [c]

6 Do not stare at me because I am dark,
because I am darkened by the sun.
My mother’s sons were angry with me
and made me take care of the vineyards;
my own vineyard I have neglected.

7 Tell me, you whom I love, where you graze your flock
and where you rest your sheep at midday.
Why should I be like a veiled woman
beside the flocks of your friends?

Friends

8 If you do not know, most beautiful of women,
follow the tracks of the sheep
and graze your young goats
by the tents of the shepherds.

Lover

9 I liken you, my darling, to a mare
harnessed to one of the chariots of Pharaoh.

10 Your cheeks are beautiful with earrings,
your neck with strings of jewels.

11 We will make you earrings of gold,
studded with silver.

Beloved

12 While the king was at his table,
my perfume spread its fragrance.

13 My lover is to me a sachet of myrrh
resting between my breasts.

14 My lover is to me a cluster of henna blossoms
from the vineyards of En Gedi.

Lover

15 How beautiful you are, my darling!
Oh, how beautiful!
Your eyes are doves.

Beloved

16 How handsome you are, my lover!
Oh, how charming!
And our bed is verdant.

Lover

17 The beams of our house are cedars;
our rafters are firs.

Amnon and Thamar

2 Samuel 13:10-14 (New International Version)

10 Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food here into my bedroom so I may eat from your hand.” And Tamar took the bread she had prepared and brought it to her brother Amnon in his bedroom. 11 But when she took it to him to eat, he grabbed her and said, “Come to bed with me, my sister.”

12 “Don’t, my brother!” she said to him. “Don’t force me. Such a thing should not be done in Israel! Don’t do this wicked thing. 13 What about me? Where could I get rid of my disgrace? And what about you? You would be like one of the wicked fools in Israel. Please speak to the king; he will not keep me from being married to you.” 14 But he refused to listen to her, and since he was stronger than she, he raped he

Genesis 19:30-36 (New International Version)

Lot and His Daughters

30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let’s get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father.”

33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I lay with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

36 So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.

Schools in Germany will start offering classes on Islam, according to the German Islam Conference (DIK) currently being held in capital Berlin.

“We all agree that this is the way that should now be followed,” Interior Minister Wolfgang Schauble, who hosted the conference, told journalists.

It was an unexpectedly long and heated debate. But after four hours of discussion, the 30 participants of DIK, a round- table launched by Schauble in 2006, announced their support for introducing classes on Islam at public schools in Germany. Participants also agreed to support the construction of more mosques in Germany and fight against Islamic radicalism.

“In the not too far future, we – where there is a wish and a need for it – will have Islam religion classes at German schools,” Schauble said. Classes are to be held in German.

There are approximately 800,000 Muslim children in Germany, but only 12 percent are taught about their religion at school. So far it has been difficult to organize Islam lessons at German schools because Germany’s Muslims do not have a central institution to represent them. Education regulations in Germany are decided according to each state. Muslim associations are expected to provide the content of the classes while the state is responsible for organizing and financing the teaching.

In the past, most federal governments have had no contact points among the Muslim community. “There is little unity among Muslims,” said Manfred Schreiner from the Nuremberg education department. Schauble appealed to Muslims in Germany to form major associations in each federal state which can represent the many scattered Islamic groups.

“It is a huge step toward integration,” said Remzi Guneysu, a Turkish-German engineer and founder and chairman of the Islamic Religious Community Erlangen (IRE). The Bavaria-based IRE is one of very few examples where Muslims in Germany set up an association to cooperate with the state. Six years ago, the IRE was thus able to introduce Islam classes at a German school. “Our teachers have build bridges of integration between the religions,” said Guneysu in an interview with the Turkish Daily News. “The classes help to abolish prejudices.” Guneysu added that the behavior of children changed after religion classes were introduced. “They treat each other with more respect. And they are able to discuss Islam and other religious issues with their school friends in German.”

A model project at a school in Lower Saxony showed that there were less fights between students of Turkish and Arabic origins in school yards after Islam lessons in German were introduced. Also, parents felt more encouraged to participate at meetings or events held at their children’s schools.

“After only a few years of experience in Erlangen we can already say that Islam lessons do not block the integration of Muslims into our society but instead foster tolerance and an understanding of each other,” said Guneysu. “The overall positive effects cannot be overlooked.”

The major aim of the new approach is to increase tolerance between Muslims and non-Muslims, but also to fight tendencies of radicalism among young Muslims. Schauble, who earlier this week had expressed concerns about “the emotional gap” between Muslims and non-Muslims in his country, said he was confident that Islam classes at German schools will lead to changes in the religious practice in mosques. “We are determined to fight hate mongers with all means. By introducing Islam lessons at schools we are more or less entering competition with them,” Schauble told German daily Suddeutsche Zeitung.

Islamic religious education in Turkish has been taught in some parts of Germany since 1977: “When it was first introduced, everyone thought the children would be going back home again,” said Michael Kiefer, an Islamic scholar who has published a book on “Islamic studies in the German language in Northrhine-Westfalia.” Meanwhile German society has understood that the sons and daughters of the first generation of Turkish immigrants are children of the German state. The new model laid out by the German Islam Conference this week therefore aims at bringing up children as German citizens with Muslim values.

When exactly Islam lessons will be introduced to German schools remains open. “This is not yet foreseeable,” said Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, president of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, and member of the Christian Democratic Union. It will take “several years.” The University of Munster offers a study program for Islam teachers since 2004.

German education ministers have announced plans to expand classes on Islam to include all students, but the plan faces a shortage of teachers. Officials seeking to open the Islam classes to non-Muslim students face hurdles in finding qualified instructors — only 2.8 percent of Muslims in German high schools eventually graduate, Der Spiegel reported Friday.

Only about 120 Islam teachers are currently working in Germany — one-eighth of the estimated number needed.

In their interim report, the 30 members of the conference committed themselves to the German legal system and the national constitution. As Bekir Alboga, spokesman for the Coordination Council of Muslims in Germany, explained, this means the acceptance of equal status between men and women – before the law as well as before God.

Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid(R)

She was born in the year 68 BH to Khuwaylid b. Asad and Faatimah bint. Za’idah. She was raised on praiseworthy characteristics and was well-known and praised for her intelligence, chastity, and prudence until people began to call her “Taahirah” or “the pure one.” She was a successful businesswoman, who achieved her wealth through hiring men to take it on merchant trips to sell. She was first married to Abu Halah b. Zurarah of the Banu Tameem and was the mother of two sons, one of whom died at the Battle of al-Jamal, fighting on the side of ‘Ali.

It reached her that the Messenger of Allah(S) was known for his truthfulness and generosity. One day Abu Taalib said to his nephew: “I am a man without wealth, and times have become tough on us, and these disagreeable years harass us, and we have neither material possessions nor merchandise, and this [woman] Khadeejah sends men from among your people to do business with her wealth and they gain profit. So if she comes to you, convey to her your honesty.

So Khadeejah sent for him and proposed that he go with her wealth to ash-Sham as a merchant. In return, she would give him more than she used to give to the other traders. She would also send with him a young servant of her’s called Maysarah. So the Messenger of Allah(S) accepted that and went with her wealth and her servant Maysarah until he reached the foot of ash-Shaam. So he sold his commodoties which he had left with and bought what he desired [to buy on Khadeejah's behalf. Then he, along with Maysarah, embarked to Makkah with a caravan. So his trading gained twice as much profit as what was usually gained. So the Messenger(S)'s wages were double what was usually given.

And when the servant Maysarah told her about what he saw of the character of Muhammad(S), she sent for him(S). Then she said to him: "O cousin, indeed, I like in you our blood relationship and the undoubted nobility of your descent, your trustworthiness and sincerity, as well as the integrity of your character and the truthfulness of your speech." Then she suggested marriage to him. So the Messenger of Allah(S) mentioned that to his uncles. So Hamzah(R) went with him until they called upon Khuwaylid, who said: "He is the stallion whose nose cannot be touched (i.e. He is strong)." So the Messenger of Allah(S) married her and gave her 20 camels as a dowry. She was 40 years old when she married the Messenger of Allah(S), and he was 25 years old. She was the first lady that the Messenger of Allah(S) married, and he never married anyone else as long as he was married to her until she died. She gave him 6 children: Al-Qaasim, 'Abdullah, Zaynab(R), Ruqayyah(R), Um Kulthoom(R), and Faatimah(R).

And when the Prophet(S) received prophethood, she was the first to believe in Allah and His Messenger Muhammad(S); she was the first to believe in what His Lord sent him and strengthened him in his affairs. So the Prophet(S) used not to hear anything from the polytheists that he hated to hear and of disbelief in him except that Allah comforted him through Khadeejah(R), who stood by him and the da'wah and she used to lessen his grief over what he used see from his people.

Narrated 'Aisha(R), the mother of the faithful believers: The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah's Apostle was in the form of good dreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship (Allah alone) continuously for many days before his desire to see his family. He used to take with him the journey food for the stay and then come back to (his wife) Khadeejah(R) to take his food like-wise again till suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him and asked him to read. The Prophet replied, "I do not know how to read."

The Prophet added, "The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any more." He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, "I do not know how to read." Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read but again I replied, "I do not know how to read." Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said, {Read in the name of your Lord, who has created (all that exists), has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous.} Then Allah's Messenger(S) returned with the Inspiration and with his heart beating severely. Then he went to Khadeejah(R) bint Khuwaylid and said, "Cover me! Cover me!" They covered him till his fear was over, and after that he told her everything that had happened and said, "I fear that something may happen to me." Khadeejah(R) replied, "Never! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You keep good relations with your Kith and kin, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests generously and assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones."

Khadeejah(R) then accompanied him to her cousin Waraqah b. Nawfal b. Asad b. 'Abdul-'Uzza, who, during the Pre-Islamic Period became a Christian and used to write the writing with Hebrew letters. He would write from the Gospel in Hebrew as much as Allah wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Khadeejah(R) said to Waraqah, "Listen to the story of your nephew, O my cousin!" Waraqah asked, "O my nephew! What have you seen?" Allah's Apostle described whatever he had seen. Waraqah said, "This is the same one who keeps the secrets (angel Gabriel) whom Allah had sent to Moses. I wish I were young and could live up to the time when your people would turn you out." Allah's Apostle asked, "Will they drive me out?" Waraqah replied in the affirmative and said, "Anyone (man) who came with something similar to what you have brought was treated with hostility; and if I should remain alive till the day when you will be turned out then I would support you strongly." But after a few days Waraqa died, and the Divine Revelation was also paused for a while.

The Messenger of Allah(S) and Khadeejah(R) continued to pray in secret as long as Allah willed. 'Afeef Al-Kanadee reported: "I came to Makkah during the Days of Ignorance, and I wanted to sell on behalf of my family some clothes and perfume. I went to Al-'Abbaas b. 'Abdul-Muttalib." He said: "While I was at his house, I looked at the Ka'bah. The sun came out, when a young man came until he was close to the Ka'bah. Then he raised his head toward the sky and faced the Ka'bah while standing. Then a youth came and stood on his right. It did not take long before a woman came and stood behind them. Then the young man bowed. Then the youth and the woman bowed. Then the young man raised his head, and the youth and the woman raised their heads. Then the young man prostrated himself, and the youth and the woman prostrated themselves."

He said: "So I said: 'O 'Abbaas! Indeed, I see a great man." Then Al-'Abbaas(R) said: "A great matter. Do you know who this young man is?" I said: "No, I don't know." He said: "This is Muhammad b. 'Abdullah b. 'Abdul-Muttalib, my nephew. Do you know who this [woman] is?” I said: “I don’t know.” He said: “This is Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid, the wife of this nephew of mine. This nephew of mine who you see has reported to us that his Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and that He has ordered him to this religion that he is following. I swear by Allah that I do not know of anyone else on earth who is following this religion other than those three.” ‘Afeef said: “I wanted to be the fourth one of them.”

And the Messenger of Allah(S) used to honor her and cherish her. And he used not to disagree with her before he received revelation. Then he used to remember her a lot after her death, and he didn’t get tired of praising her, until ‘Aishah(R), the Mother of the Believers, got jealous, and said to the Prophet(S): “Verily, Allah has given you better than that old woman.” The Prophet(S) became angry and said: “No, by Allah, I swear that Allah has never given me better than her. She was the wife who believed in me when everyone else disbelieved in me. She affirmed my truthfulness when everyone else accused me of lying. She supported me with her money when everyone else deprived me. And Allah provided me with children through her when no other woman has given me chilren.” In fact, the Prophet(S) became so angry at what I said until his forehead trembled. So I said to myself: “O Allah, if the Messenger of Allah(S)’s anger abates, I will never again say anything like I said.”

And ‘Aishah(R) also said: “I was never jealous of any of the other wives of the Prophet(S) like I was jealous of Khadeejah(R). And I have not seen her, but the Prophet(S) used to remember her a lot. Sometimes, he would sacrifice a sheep, then cut its limbs and send them to Khadeejah(R)’s friends. So sometimes, I said to him: “It is as if there were no other woman in the world other than Khadeejah(R).” So he would say: “How can I forget her? She also gave me children most loving.” ‘Aishah(R) also said: “The Messenger of Allah(S) almost used not to leave the house before he would mention Khadeejah and praise her.

Khadeejah(R), the Mother of the Believers, died helping the Messenger of Allah(S) in conveying the call to Islam. She died three years before the migration to Madeenah at the age of sixty five. The Prophet(S) then buried her with his own hands. Her death was a great misfortune for the Prophet(S).

M. The Holy Qur’an states in Surah 4:157 chat Jesus was not crucified: “And their [Jews'] boasting: “We killed Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, the Apostle of Allah,’ but they [Jews] killed him not, nor crucified him…” Do you still believe that he died on the cross?

C. Yes, he died and was then resurrected.

M. We all agree that nobody saw the moment he was resurrected. They found the sepulchre where Jesus was laid down, empty and made the conclusion that he was resurrected because the disciples and other witnesses saw him alive after the alleged crucifixion. Could it not be possible, as the Qur’an claims, that he didn’t die on the cross?

C. Where is the proof then?

M. Let us see passages in the Bible supporting this evidence. Do you give more weight to what Jesus said or to hearsay of the disciples, apostles and other witnesses?

C. Of course more to Jesus himself.

M. That is in accordance with what Jesus said (Matthew 10:24): “The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.”

C. Bur Jesus himself said that he will rise from the dead (Luke 24:46): “And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day.”

M. Suffering is often exaggerated in the Bible and termed “dead” as Paul said (I Corinthians 15:31): “I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ, I die daily” (i.e. I sufier daily). Here are some of the proofs:
1. On the cross he beseeched God for help (Matthew 27:46): “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”And in Luke 22:42: “Saying, Father if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done” (This cup is the cup of death.)
2. Jesus’ prayer not to die on the cross was accepted by God, according to Luke, Hebrews and James Then how could he still die on the cross? (Luke 22:43): “And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.” It means that an angel assured him that God would not leave him helpless. (Hebrews 5:7): “Who in the days of his flesh, when he [Jesus] had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in thai he feared.”
Jesus’ prayers were here heard, which means answered in a positive way by God (James 5:16): “…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Jesus himself said (Matthew 7:7-10): “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unco you; For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth, and to him who knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish,’will he give him a serpent?” If all Jesus’ prayers were accepted by God, including not to die on the cross, how could he still die on the cross then?
3. His legs were not broken by the Roman soldiers (John 19:32-33): “Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs.” Can you rely on these soldiers for pronouncing the death, or did they want to save Jesus as they found him innocent?
4. If Jesus died on the cross, his blood would clot and no blood would gush out of his body when his side was pierced. But the Gospel states that blood and water came out; (John 19:34): “But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.”
5. When the Pharisees asked Jesus for a sign of his true mission he answered (Matthew 12:40): “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Disregard now the time factor, which was also not three days and three nights but one day (Saturday, daytime only) and two nights (Friday night and Saturday night). Was Jonas alive in the belly of the whale?

C. Yes.

M. Was Jonas still alive when he was vomited out of the belly of the whale?

C. Yes

M. Then Jesus was still alive as he prophesied.

6. Jesus himself stated that he didn’t die on the cross. Early Sunday morning Mary Magdalene went to the sepulchre, which was empty. She saw somebody standing who looked like a gardener. She recognized him after conversation to be Jesus and wanted to touch him. Jesus said (John 20:17): “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father…” “Touch me not,” perhaps because the fresh wound would hurt him. “I am not yet ascended to my Father,” means that he was still alive, not dead yet, because if somebody dies, then he goes bark to the Creator. This was the strongest proof admitted by Jesus himself.
7. After the alleged crucifixion the disciples thought that he was not the same Jesus in body but spiritualized, because resurrected bodies are spiritualized.

C. Interruption How could you be sure that resurrected bodies are spiritualized?

M. That is what Jesus himself said in the Bible: that they are equal to angels.

C. Where in the Bible?

M. In Luke 20:34-36: “And answering said unto them, The children of the world marry, and are given in marriage. But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and then resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.”
Then Jesus convinced them by letting them touch his hands and feet, that he was the same person. As they could not believe him yet, he asked for meat to show them that he still ate like any living individual. Read Luke 24:56-41: “And as they [the disciples] thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them. Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them. Have ye here any meat? And they gave him a piece of broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them.”

8. If you still believe that he died on the cross, then he was a false Prophet and accursed of God according to these passages: (Deuteronomy 13:5): “And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death…”; (Deuteronomy 21:22-23): “And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree: His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.”
To believe in his death on the cross is to discredit his prophethood. The Jews maintained to have killed Jesus on the cross and consequently portrayed him to be false in his claim to prophethood. Christians believe in the crucifixion necessary for their redemption of sin and consequently have to accept the accursedness of Jesus, too. This Christian belief opposes the Bible’s teaching in Hosea 6:6: “For I desired mercy and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt-offerings.” It also opposes Jesus’ own teaching (Matthew 9:13): “But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice…” Again Jesus said (Matthew 12:7): “But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.”

C. Why do people believe in the resurrection then?

M. It was Paul who taught the resurrection (Acts 17:18): “…And some [Jews] said, What will this babbler say? other some, He [Paul] seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.” Paul, who never saw Jesus, also admitted that the resurrection was his gospel (II Timothy 2:8): “Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel.” He was also the first who declared Jesus as Son of God (Acts 9:20): “And straight-way he [Paul] preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.” So Christianity is not a teaching of Jesus but of Paul.

C. But Mark (16:19) mentioned that Jesus was raised up to heaven and sat on the right hand of God: “So then after (he Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.”

M. As I told you under the discussion of the Holy Bible that Mark 16, verses 9-20, were expunged in certain Bibles. See remark in the Revised Standard Version, the New American Standard Bible and the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Church. If you still believe thatJesus is divine because he was raised up to heaven, why don’t you accept other Prophets as divine who were also raised up to heaven?

C. Who were they?

M. Elijah (II Kings 2:1 1-12): “…and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried… And he saw him no more…” Also Enoch was taken by God to heaven (Genesis 5:24). “And Enoch walked with God; and he was not; for God took him,” This was also repeated in Hebrews 11:5: “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God translated him; for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.”
